FSI High Pressure Fuel Pump Problem
This is kind of the silent killer that not alot of people know about. This is a major problem over on the MKV GTI forums with has way more traffic than the Audi sites. It will get you. Just try looking at your follower and you will see.
Like I mentioned in another thread...I bet the spring in the fuel pump is not the same type as the spring for the valves-which may cause the "slapping" between the follower and cam. Or is it due to a lack of lubrication there? Or both?
If you do pull the follower and see minimal wear though, do not reuse it. They may try to but for $60 or less just get a new one.
Wow after 70,000 miles i finally found one of these cam followers for $46. i took it apart this morning and the cam follower still looks brand new. i was like wtf cuz i saw horrible pictures from other a4 owners and as well as vw owners after 24,000 and even the parts of the springs off of HPFP were chewed up by the cam, but mines looks like its in mint condition and i bought this car with 0 miles. must of been a miracle. my pcv went out, but i thought it was a cam follower issue. still have the original ignition coils too, but 2 of them just went out. my cars not under warranty, but would the dealership change it for free since it is a recall? part number ends with an A
The Black coating was still on your followere completely intact? Or was yours already all silver. I have never seen one without some wear to the coating. No pics?
I just saw a 90k follower in a GTI forum post today that had worn a massive hole directly through the piece.

i posted that before i wipe it clean. the black coating did come off completely. sorry bout that. i was scared to see it before i removed it and was so much relieved when mine didnt look like theirs.
I call shenanigans. Audi says every 10k on the oil change and i'd bet my left ******** they actually did research on their expinsive *** engines that they are liable for on a major failure up to at least 50k miles or more.
I agree mobile 1 is what is needed and maybe 7k miles for a change if you are paranoid but at these prices, AUDI's 10k interval is good enough for me. Why would a company use a 10k interval which is more than most any company I have ever heard of if they were not sure of it's durability?
