Howling Noise/Vibrations after CO install.
05.5 A4 Quattro Manual 30k
So all at one time I installed a set of KW V1's, RS4 Rear Sway, and a set of RS4 Reps (18x8, 225/40/18).
Well I think I have put together a decent list of symptoms.
Vibrations that are similar to a tire being out of balance (appx 60mph that diminish past 65mph).
Going above 40mph, doing a SLIGHT turn left or right (we are talking sub 5 degree on the steering wheel), I get a vibration in the steering wheel (more like a shimmy honestly). Once past the slight turn on the steering wheel, the shimmy goes away.
These two sympomts are greatly increased when I use my 8mm spacers on the fronts (which I have removed). Possible it is just spacer issue.
Also I get what seems like excess road-noise above 20mph, which SOUNDS like it is either coming from the driver rear or passenger front. To try to describe the sound, it is more "hollow" than any tire/road noise I have heard in the past. Sound does not change when in or out of gear, on gas or off. Nor does it seem to change when I am turning. When driving on new pavement the noise does diminish greatly. One thing that struck me as odd, that it seemed more apparent yesterday as it was pretty warm outside (80f, which is HOT for us Alaskans).
Also when driving up my road to my house (which is a small section of bumpy dirt road, gotta love Alaska). My steering wheel can sometimes can feel loose. Like jumpy almost. Now I am not sure if there is anything wrong here (I go slow, and some of the bumps are not large, but abrupt), but it also did it before any of these mods. Just throwing it out there.
So far what I have done is:
Put stock tires back on (17's). Vibration did not change, but the noise was much worse. These tires ran smooth before the suspension change.
Tightend down, double checked all bolts (CR/TRE/Swaybar/Suspension). The only ones I didn't check where the strut nuts, I am not getting any clunks.
Adjusted ride height (a little lower and much more even). Noise seemed to diminish some, vibration seems to remain unchanged.
I have tried shaking all my wheels while up in the air, and see no evidence of play. Took it to a "Indy VW Shop", and they could not find anything wrong.
I have gotten it aligned but need to align again due to lower ride height.
Anyways, thank you for any help.

if you put nice high eprformace tires on the rims it could add to the road noise as more rubber is touching the ground
the vibration could just you not being used to the newer much tighter suspension.....i mean the ride should feel MUCH MUCH more stiff, also thats most likely the reason why your steering wheel feels jumpy over bumps because its being much more responsive to your conditions
other then that i dunno....i would say ur out of alignment if your car is shimmying on a sub 5 degree turn
