Key Issue...
When I bought my new A4 it came with 3 remote keys and 2 valet keys... no plastic emergency key or key tag. 2 of the remote keys work fine, as does one of the valet keys. However, the remaing remote key and valet key won't work. They fit the locks and ignition but neither can be used to start the car and the remote doesn't lock/unlock the doors when the buttons are pressed. I've tried to reprogram the 3rd remote as per the manual but it doesn't make any difference.
Any ideas...?

It's easy to pair the fob with the car, but if it won't start it, it sounds like the chip inside needs programming too. Not sure how that's done. If you really feel like you need 3 remote keys and 2 valet keys, take it to the dealership, but you'll pay for it, I'm sure. For me, 2 remotes and 1 valet key is enough.
I got the plastic emergency key with my used A4, but I didn't get the keycode tag. I was a little sad about that, but I have a pretty rigorous rule of only locking the car with the fob, so it makes it somewhat unlikely I'd lock the keys in the car.

That being the case, why would they physically fit to door locks and ignition...?
The battery was dead when I got the key but even after replacing it it didn't work.
Yeah... I thought the keyfob would be easy too... just follow the instructions in the manual. It's different than the B6 where you reprog via the door lock. The manual for my B7 says to do it using the ignition.
I've had the car less than a week and it's a CPO so I'll speak to the dealer about getting it done for free. I figure if they provided 3 then I figure they should work...? I've never lost a key in my life but if I don't get it done now I may regret it later.
yeaa sounds like the programming may be messed up, are the battery dead? I wouldnt worry about it since u have an extra key but ur best bet is to bring it to the dealer man

Sounds like a good plan.
My Jetta used the same key system, and I thought it limited you to 2 fobs, one key without a fob, and the valet key. you might not be able to program the extra keys. The plastic key was missing from my car too, and cost me $52. After getting locked out of my Jetta, and having the police break into the car, I will never go without that plastic key. The only tools available to break into my car, scraped up the paint job, and would have cost more than the $52 to fix. In the dead of winter in a blizzard, you can't be picky about how your car gets unlocked.
