Looking at a 2008 Quattro CPO A4--issues?
I am looking at an '08 CPO A4 Quattro and an wondering a few things that I should be on the lookout for besides the HPFP and Cam Follower BS and DV's.
I know some of the older cars had issues w/ premature failure of the control arms/steering linkage or some chit--do the newer ones have this issue?
The '08 has a timing chain, is that correct--I'm not down with $1000 outlays for a belt change.
Any issues to look for in the tranny w/ the Quattro?
Any other things to look out for?
Also, what are you guys budgeting for yearly repairs on average?

i swear there is a post about this sammme exxxact topic everyother day, read the stickies they'll give u some very good information.
I believe the 08 has a belt, but i could be wrong, it may be a change but a timing belt change will run you up over 1k if done by the dealer and I'd always have atleast 1k around if something does happen to the car. Your best bet is invest in a vag-com, you can either but the 20$ ebay one or spend the 150$ on the professional ross-tech one and get alot more out of it, like you can do a few options like turn off the seat belt chimer, mess with the headlights and DRL's to name a few. Plus with the professional one you can monitor almost all systems on the car to see if there are any irregularities. The dealership will charge you just about 100$ just to scan the car which you can do countless times with just 150$. If you are a DIYer than this car isn't very expensive to maintain. The tranny is solid, not much for issues there, you really shouldnt have any problems with an 08 CPO, if you do i'd say your very unlucky

the 08+ have bulletproof DVs from the factory. they are the rev D. they can handle extra boost. i haven't heard anything bad about the fuel pump other than the follower.
i think my belt change is under the warranty. the 08+ may have a chain though. i'm quite sure.
the tranny is awesome. double clutch and smooth.
the car has never let me down so i've done no repairs. i plan to possibly chip it so i had the DV upgraded to rev D. the suspension is solid. after all these years and all the potholes and bumps it's still tight and no noise from the bushings. i had the original follower taken out after 3 years and replaced out of curiosity and the follower looked good other than the removal of the black coating. that cost me $350 or so. so i do plan to spend that much ever 3 years. i could do it myself but i'd rather have the dealer do it.

Yeah. All B7's 2005.5 - 2008 have the exact same engine right down to the Timing Belt. I know the PCV's have gotton better as well as the DV's. I thought I heard the Cam follower issue was getting better but do not quote me on that.
If you have this engine no matter what year, do not rust any of these parts. You may get a revision "D" DV but it is dependant on the build date of your car. I would advise driving your car up some ramps and taking the 10 minutes to check the DV to make sure. If you plan to add any power mods like a chip, Follow my sticky up top.
READ MY STICKY and others up there. EVERYONE! I think the mods should make it only possible to proceed to this forum once the Sticky's are read for first time users. Kinda like the Terms of Service on sites. Yes they are that important but everyone just skips them. Information is power.

True the B8 2.0T had a chain, B7 all had belts. The 2.0TFSI 211ps first appeared in Germany in early/mid 2008 (B8's came out at the end of 2007 here w/ 1.8TFSI 160ps & 3.2 265ps). That is the reason for some confusion with the motors I believe.
I have asked the German Audi folks here on that same subject, and they have not seen this problem with the German Spec'd 2.0T FSI engines. Although one said if the oil is allowed to stay low or is not check until the light comes on, that could cause unnecessary wear on parts such as these.
Probably the best thing to do is just get it checked.
