Default new battery now the remote keys don't work

I posted this in the Electronics section also so sorry for the double post. But anyone have any ideas? I can't find anything in the manual. Car starts and runs great but neither one of my remotes will open or lock door or trunk or panic button.
06 A4 2WD.
Thanks

I might have been unclear about the battery I replaced. I replaced the 12 volt car battery because it was the one that died. Sorry for any confusion.

Changing the car's battery clears its memory of being linked with the keys, so you have to follow the procedure to reestablish it. It varies from car to car, so check your manual to see what it says.

^ Sorry, too lazy to track down the post in the electronics thread so my response here may be a waste, but!

I just got my B7 and had the same thing happen. The battery that was in it had bad cells when I bought it so the dealer gave me a new battery and after I installed it, same thing with the remotes. All that happened was the programming in the car's computer was reset by removing the battery. Fortunately, reprogramming the remote is a stupid-easy task. Simply take the remote in question, push and hold the UNLOCK button, keep holding it and put the key in the ignition and turn the switch on- don't start the motor, just turn the key on- all while continuing to hold the unlock button. Hold it like that for about 5 seconds, turn the key back off and pull it out. When you release your hold on the unlock button, the turn signals will flash once and you'll be set. Rinse and repeat for the other remote(s) and all will be good
