Default New Owner of an A4-Have Imporant Questions.

Hi All

I literally just picked up my car 3 days ago off the lot. Well the same night I got it, I was driving around, the Check Engine Light Came On. I was concerned so I called salesman, he said the reason is because if i was behind a car with bad fumes, my car will detect it, then the light will go on. As long as it doesnt blink constintely then it's fine. Does this seem right to anyone?
Also, Another Question: Before I purchased the car it was serviced at 15,000 miles, next service is at 25,000. Well it says on the display screen, it needs to be serviced in 800 miles, but that is wrong. Does service just have to go in and re program the screen? I'm bringing it in tomorrow to just be safe and see what;s going on with it. Has anyone else experienced anything with there cars when you first picked them up? Thanks!

i never heard of the fumes part, but the service is normal when the tech didnt reset the service internal timer.

It would make sense if the car has been sitting there for a long period of time and not doing anything, but it could be something small. And if it is blinking than I would stop quick!

I agree the service part was a slip up but the fumes.... I think he is pulling 1 on you. I would turn right around and make them look at it.....

That fumes excuse he gave you is a load of BS. As for the service warning you can reset it yourself. Dont remeber exactly how (think you hold down 0,0 and press +) Just do a quick search and it should pop up. Best of luck

Hey JerzyGirl...ok I don't trust car salesmen...I originally bought a CPO2006 A4 (with 12000 miles)and 2 days later on my way to work the check engine light came on. So I figured I'd stop by the dealership on my way home from work. hmmmm didn't make it. The engine light started all of a sudden flashing and then the car suddenly stops in the middle of traffic. When I towed it in to the dealership they told me the coils went bad and they would replace them. They replacethe coils and3 days later I go to pick up the car. The very next day the engine light goes on again...this time I'm very upset and I drive it to the dealership and make it
I tell the owner of the dealership that I will not take the car. I only had the car for hours it spent all week at the dealership. So he agreed to exchange it for me and I got a brand new 2008 which is a lot more $ but its worth it!!! So be careful

I know the fumes thing was a little off, wasnt quite sitting right with me either. I took it in today to get serviced, so hopefully by tomorrow everything will be fixed. The Check Engine light just came off and on, never rapidly was blinking, i'm glad it didnt. I got a loaner car, and its a 2008 Black A4 3.2 Quattro, it's nice. Hopefully i'll get my car back for this weekend, i miss it already !

I miss mine if I'm away from it long! Yea if the light starts blinking dont drive any further. If its solid you can go to autozone and they can pull the code for free. Good luck
