Oil Change Questions ??
First time doing this and a I have a few questions.....Do you still have to take both lower covers off if you have the tool that drains the filter canister? (I have it) And, where is the best place to locate the floor jack without doing any damage, I know on some vehicles it's best to have the car tilt to the side that the oil plug is on. I usually don't like to jack the front up if the oil is going to sit in the rear part of the oil pan and not drain out. Is there a certain amount of turns to tighten the canister after it makes contact, or do you just snug it down? I thought my FX35 was a PIA with 1 cover, the spin onfilter was right in the front too. TNX
I take off the one cover at the bottom and work from there.
Its the same whether or not you have the tool to drain the canister, all you need is something to push the orange thing back and the oil drains out. My local audi dealer didnt even use that tool. Other than that the cartridge style filters are just like regular ones when you twist them on, make sure you replace the rubber gasket. Most cars are designed with the oil drain plugs toward the rear of the car so that if you have the front end jacked up, oil drains from the rear. I seldom see anything otherwise, as for the audi i dont quite remember, but having the front end jacked up is just fine.
