Default Problems with locks... please help?

Greetings,

I have a 2006 Audi A4 2.0TQM. A little while ago, the remote fob thing started working sporadically. Now it no longer works. I changed the battery, no go. To unlock the car, I have to use the actual key.

Then I noticed that if I press the lock button on the door, exit the vehicle and close the door, the door is actually not locked.

The latest: unlocking my doors with the key, even turning it twice, doesn't unlock the trunk anymore. Instead, I have to unlock the car doors, then unlock the trunk using the key. If I don't unlock the car door first, the alarm goes off.

What, pray tell, is up with this? Any assistance would be appreciated!

Sounds like they need to be reprogrammed. There is a procedure in the manual, where you stick the key in the ignition, and the door, and push some fob buttons. That might fix it. Otherwise it's a trip to the dealer who can reprogram the system. Mine got so scrambled after the dealer changed my battery, they had to reprogram the car. They say it's rare that a car locking system gets that scrambled, but it can happen.

Try that above. Also maybe try disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes. This should reset the computer. I had a similar issue on my mini cooper before I traded it in for my audi and no mechanics could figure it out. Finally I searched and searched and found that the computer likely "spiked" somehow and screwed up my central locking and unhooking the battery cable, letting it sit, then connecting the cable reset the computer and bingo! Central locking worked again. Only took a year of frustration to figure out it was something so simple. Not sure if this works on Audi's but it's worth a try.
