A question on AudiSymphony
Hi folks,
I searched the archives reagrading this, but couldn't find much.
My 2007 A4 has the 6 CD changer. It is not able to detect the
CD title/artist name/track title etc. for audio CDs(just shows
CD 1/Track 1, etc.). But it works OK for MP3 CDs. The manual has just
one reference, which says these details will be detected for CDs with
"CD text". Don't know what this means. I'm just playing standars CDs
from the music stores.
Seems like a pretty basic problem for a car of this stature. Please let me
know if anybody has some info on this.
Thanks.

CD's from music stores, unless they've changed this while I'm sleeping, never did and probably never will contain artists name, song name, etc. When you insert that CD into your computer, the disk is compared to an online database and the information is downloaded. I believe you have to burn the CD in a certain format for your computer if you want it to be a strait music CD and have data files as well (not sure how to do this). MP3 CD's have the files saved to the disk which have data imbedded within them which is why title / artist info comes up.

Thanks for the response. Sounds very logical.
My friend drives an Infiniti G35. Apparently it is able to display
all the info. Let me cross check if it really does. Wonder how it
can(I mean the online stuff)....
And it'll be so easy if the CDs from the stores come with the meta file
on it. Most of the times you don't keep the CD cover in the glove
box, and you don't what song it is playing, apart from the few well known
ones on the CD.

RE: A question on AudiSymphony
i thought store bought cd's always showed info. when i stick a store bought cd in my computer the computer automatically recognizes it, and all its data. when i put in a burned cd, it asks to connect to the internet to get the info.

The CD's don't have the info stored on them - just a reference number. When you play that on your computer, the computer goes out over the internet (based on the reference number on the CD) and gets the info and stores it. I have a CD player at home that lets you manually enter the info and saves it. Don't know if any car CD players do that.

RE: A question on AudiSymphony
I have found a few store bought CDs that have the CD TEXT, but 99% DO NOT have it. It's optional data that's written on the CD. If you burn the CDs yourself check to see if you burning software will support CDTEXT. Though if you're burning CDs and you have an 07, it makes more sense to just burn MP3 discs. Here's the Wikipedia entry about CDTEXT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-Text
