Default Transmission issues

I was driving home from work today on the I-5 Northbound in my 07 A4 6spd quattro. I was driving downhill in about 6th gear as i was coming up to traffic slowing down.

So i decided to shift down into 5th gear and just cruise slowly along. As I was shifting out of 6th my transmission almost as if it locked me out of 5th. Let off the gas, dropped it into Neutral and attempted to push the clutch in.

All pressure was lost in the clutch and was stuck engaged. I was then no longer able to shift into any gear.

Luckily i have Audi Care w/ Roadside so they came and gave me a tow to the dealer to get fixed all under warranty.

Any ideas on what happened?

Wow they didn't tell you what had caused the problem? How many miles you got on it?

Default Tranismission shot

Yeah the clutch is shot, as well as the flywheel and bearings. I've had the car for 3 weeks. It has 49k miles on it. It happened out of no where, have had no flaws before the incident.

I took it to the Audi dealer in Van Nuys. Not covered under warranty I guess, $3500 to fix.

So now i have it transferred to my dealer in Torrance. They are going to try and see what they can do since it's still within the 30 days of purchase.

Good times Audi. =/

Wow I love these car but I am really starting to reconsider my purchase of a 2005.5 2.0T A4 that has 44k miles. The other day I read about a chain breaking and messing up stuff in the engine with only 33k on the engine. Now yours with only 49k miles on and transmission shot. Thank god you were still under the 30 days warranty. It seems as though if some one wants to buy one of these cars, buying extra warranty is a must. Where did you buy the car from?

Well it's not covered under the warranty. The dealership just feels bad that I'm going thru all this on a newly purchased car, so they are working with me. They are going to try and cover as much as they can under warranty and discount the rest. I purchased it at Pacific Audi in Torrance, CA.

I do have the factory warranty, as well as the Certified Pre Owned extended warranty, as well as the Audi Care. And still nothing covers it. Gotta love it.

Default Well, no one wants to tell ya--we told ya so...........

But we'll do it anyways. You buy an Audi, you want the looks, the styling, the speed and handling--cool. BUT--dont whine when it absolutely blows up and costs you $3500 for a f*cking clutch job!!!!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE people--do some research before you shell out a huge amt. of loot for a car thats a rolling time bomb/russian roulette mobile.

I guess their idea is that this was caused by abuse from the previous owner... still, seems they ought to cover it.

I think you need to have a serious discussion with your dealer as to why this is not covered. The warranty clearly does not cover wear items which includes the clutch friction disc. But a normal worn clutch will manifest itself with hard shifting and slipping way before there is any type of catastrophic failure as you seem to have experienced. Make them explain what failed, why it failed and exactly why they think abuse caused the failure. I'd also take some pictures of the failed parts so you can get some additional opinions as to why the failure occurred.
