Default Wheel Squeak in 2007 A4

Hi guys,

Glad I found this place as I recently purchased my first Audi. Apologies if this specific issue was covered elsewhere. I did some searching and couldn't come up with an exact match, although I might have just missed it.

2007 A4 2.0T Quattro
6sp auto
18k miles

Here's my situation:

Rotational squeaking noise coming from either driver side front or rear wheel area. It only happens after a mile or so or driving, so I assume it has something to do with parts heating up. Also only occurs at low speeds, around 30 MPH or so while driving in parking lots and the like. It stops as soon as the brakes are applied but resumes immediately when they are released. I recently had the car serviced at a non-Audi place and mentioned it, but they were unable to reproduce it. Brake pads are fine, or so I was told.

I have a feeling it might be a simple lubrication issue or something else, but wanted to see if anyone here knew before I took it to Audi. Main reason I'm worried is because I bought the car at 16k and found out the 15k service was never done. I duplicated much of it myself and had all filters changed, so hopefully that won't void my warranty in any way if it's serious.

Apologies for the length, really hoping someone might know what this is....

I should also add that I have a decent amount of brake dust, road filth build up on my wheels. Could it be something as simple as this? I just don't understand why the squeak goes away immediately upon braking.

You found an '07 with 18k miles on it?! I wouldn't worry about voiding your warranty for being a few miles over the service interval. You took care of it, shouldn't be a problem.

I also wouldn't worry about anything too serious at 18k miles. Don't you still have a warranty? Unless your car was in-service late '06, you should still be within the 4 year/50k mile warranty period. Take it to Audi and let them figure it out. With all the brake dust and the sound going away when you brake, it sounds like a brake caliper pinching just a bit too much and rubbing a bit when you're not braking, but I'm not a mechanic--I just have a good one.

Yes, I couldn't believe it either. Looking at the car fax, it looks like it went unsold for a while and the previous owner didn't drive it too much. Wonder if the lengthy period it sat before it was driven has anything to do with this.

Also, looking online outside of Audis, this exact problem appears to pop up in LOTS of cars, particular BMWs. It's one of those phantom problems where there's 5 different culprits that no mechanic can seem to pin down, although it looks like premature brake pad sensor rubbing is the typical one.
