A guy who posts elsewhere has as part of his sig '...the length of a second varies greatly, depending which side of the bathroom door you're on...'

I think there is something to this; our worst hesitation, or bobble, or whatever, is about a heartbeat, if that, but if someone is bearing down on you, it might feel like a week.
I would also suggest that some of the issue when getting off the gas/back on the gas is drivline slack and motormount flex. I've noticed something similar with our Fit.
For the poster with torque steer, that has been noted in tests of the front drive version, plus the CVT is a completely different critter. The kid's Caliber has one, and it reminds me of a motorboat; the revs come up with throttle opening, but the vehicle has to catch up to the revs.
In any case, either we've gotten used to it or the problem has faded away in our car.
I have experimented with Sport running in traffic, and it's a good solution if a sharper response is what you want for quick maneuvers.

ETA- The 2.0 T and its siblings has received rave reviews in automotive Engineering international ; their argument is that the turboed four may soon rival Diesel applications in efficiency and cost effectiveness. It surely gave us wonderful mileage on the FL run; over 30 mpg at 80, and 35 at lower (literally ALL highway) running.

I've been a HUGE fan of the turbo 4 cylinder powerplant for a long time and through a number of manufacturers.

Anyway, Stan is retired and they sold the Audi section of that dealer to the Lexus dealer being built next door.

There a specialist shop nearby the Tulsa dealer you might like to try...high ****** dollar, but they are thorough....I've decide to do everything DIY from here on out unless it's just too major for me to handle.
Man - thanks for the heads up about the specialist shop. I'll look for them.

I did not know that Audi is going to the Lexus dealer. That is amazing. The person that owns (owned) Audi Tulsa and Volkswagen also owns an Audi Dealership in Jackson, Mississippi (triva - it is Brian Hunt - the son of JB Hunt the trucker).

I'm actually over in Arkansas so 2 hour drive to service every time.

Thanks!

sure thing, they called Rennsport, only do Audi and Porsche, about 2 blocks east and around a corner from the dealer there...

Yeh, I had heard about Hunt buying it...It was Brad Noe before that and when I first moved here 2005 they were really pretty good, I had a Jetta at the time...then they restructured management at some point and the place went to absolute pot...I guess after Hunt bought it, they started turning it around a bit. I was in there a couple weeks back and the new Audi guy said they sold the Audi part to next door, they are going to continue to service Audi until the new shop is up and running, but he didn't have a firm date.

Default Audi A4 hesitation problem fixed

After two years, Audi finally has a software update that fixes the delay in the transmission when you hit the gas. I was not charged for the update but I have a feeling they would not have done it without me complaining (again) about it.

This does not change the fact that it is a 4 cyclinder CVT turbo, but at least the transmission does not take about one second to engage when you take your foot off the brake.

I have the same lag in my 2008 S6. I too was thinking WTF. While you guys think it it turbo or tranny lag I am willing to bet it is Drive-by-Wire lag.

If it were tranny lag your engine should rev like it was out of gear, which mine does not.
If it were turbo lag you should still roll but with less power, again mine does not.

I hit the gas and it sets there then all of a sudden she jumps off the line. This tells me that there is a delay between the gas peddle and the motor. No matter how you look at it, it isn't good.

This used to scare me enough in the beginning that I hit the gas then back off just as the engine got its queue which made the car jerk from a start.

I bought this car used and it is still not fixed and I'm about 1.5k away from the next service which I tend to have them check out. You cannot have a sport car with a delay or lag like this.

When did the update come out? Do you know what they call it?

Default Audi A4 lag fix

The dealer invoice is a bit tough to read, but it looks like the update is labeled TSB#2022600/2. It made a HUGE difference to the car. I no longer want to crash it into a tree.

I found one link that calls out this service number https://www.eautorepair.net/app/TSBS...=11&VID=112007 . It looks like the update came out in March 2010. They have it listed as "Transmission Shudders on Acceleration" which is true because the transmission engage is delayed and the RPMs are too high for the CVT transmission to engage smoothly.

This is a common theme. Our current B8 has it, back in 2003 our 1.8T had it and even our 2010 A6 3.0T has it. Our BMW 550i had it, as well as our 750Li. So first thought it turbo but the BMWs didnt have turbo or supers just something built into the software which is normal, even though it sucks. The 2003 was the worst, then the BMW 550i was second worst. Putting in Sport Mode helped on all of these cars. The only option to get rid of most of it is to install the Sprint Booster. Look on their website and you will see, this is why they came up with a Sprint Booster. Two cars we never experienced with this was our MB E500 and our S550, no delay at all on them.
