dd2967, most of the issues in this long thread have to do with the 2.0T engines. Those problems seem to have been minimized in the late 2011 or 2012 engines. But it seems even the newest 2.0T engines consume some oil. I bought my 2011 with 99k miles and at 111k it seems to go through a quart every 800-1000 miles. By comparison, my 2.7T did not use any oil between changes and it has 236k. So Audi is not making progress in that regard.

I suspect your 3.0T has an 8 quart sump, so going down by a quart every 1000 would not be harmful. As long as you check it periodically and top it off, you should be fine. Your oil change interval should be as indicated or a little earlier -- my indie garage recommends every 6k vs the 8k that the indicator tells me. I think fresh, clean oil is more critical to a turbo engine than to one with a supercharger.

If you want a BMW, buy a BMW. But if your A6 is otherwise running good and you still like it, I would keep it. But then again, I have been unable to let go of any of my Audis to my wife's regret.

Hey fellows,I have been reading your posts concerning the oil consumptiom issues. My story is much worse than what you all have been experiencing.I bought a beautiful 09 silver A4 2.0t with 95k miles on it in June 2015.Within a few days of purchase, the add oil light came on.I added oil and moved on.Unfortunately,as time progressed,it got worse. My Audi is now using a quart of full synthetic oil approximately every 311 miles.I have taken the car to 2 of the local Audi dealers(2 Jim Ellis dealerships in the Atlanta,Ga area).I was told that the oil consumption repairs were done at 40k miles by the previous owner.Basically, they may as well have told me that I was "SOL".I tried contacting A of A and was told the same thing("SOL").Is there anyone out there that can offer some suggestions? If not,i will have to trade this car and pass these problems on to the next buyer.

Unfortunately this situation that a lot of you new purchasers are falling in is because your not doing adequate research on the vehicle before purchasing.

There is a ton of interweb information on the 2009-2011 A4 2.0 CAEB oil consumption issue. Audi has lost a class action lawsuit in regards to this. They are forced to cover one repair for all cars effected up to 80,000 miles.

Now if you think bmw is any better, lol.... They and Subaru are also in class action litigation for oil consumption issues.

Two rules of vehicle ownership. Research common problems and always avoid first new model years.

2009 was the first year for the CAEB engine and the first year for the 3.0 supercharged motor that came in the A6.... The A6 is just a breather issue though.

I never had any problems with exhaust or sensors at 107k after stage 2 "OC" at 66K. However I did blow my motor at 107 bc the timing chain must have clicked a tooth and toasted my block Im a die hard though put a motor in and go. Audi has engineered some of the best automobiles but '09, '10, & '11 well that's a crap shoot. After reading the court findings I was VERY disappointed in Audi, I think it has made many potential owners steer clear. So for me my BIG concern would be the timing chain, some dealerships changed them and some did not. Good luck

Default Audi tec has some valid input...

I am very happy to report that my nearest Audi dealer, Murrysville, PA, took care of my oil consumption problem.
After all the reading, class actions, etc I am convinced that it all boils down to the local or favorite dealer assuming rightful responsibility for the vehicle.
I think I stated it before but I went through something very similar with a high end Harley Davidson motorcycle. UNTIL a person gets in touch with someone that is either reasonable or has enough muscle...there AIN'T nuthin' gonna' happen.
It's a shame but all of you are probably aware it's all about "get it out there and get it on the floor, get it sold" and it's getting worse. Whether it's watches or autos or whatever...competitors are just that...competitors. And if they don't have their product out there someone else will!

If recall correctly, the settlement notice includes a warranty extension for any oil consumption related issues, but don't recall exactly for how long or how many miles...

There's that old radio ad..." I'm sick and tired of it and I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE"! It depends on who you talked to at Audi of America. I know it sounds like a bunch of crap but you need to find a way to contact the man (or woman) with the muscle at Audi. Go to the internet and get the name and office of the CEO, whoever...make a "package" of your email messages, invoices, letters, whatever and send it registered U.S. Mail. NOT email but US Mail. Make someone acknowledge that they did receive the package. Follow up in a week or 10 days with a phone call or email.

They know damn well what to do to fix it, it just costs them labor hours and materials and once they do it...they're locked in to whoever else is hanging around with the same issue. All thoe money and time and people talking "customer service". Lack of integrity. 90% of this rests with your local people.

Ask them for a copy of the work order at the 40K mark where they did the work! Don't back off, get angry and go make something happen.

Default New '08 A3 owner with related questions.

New '08 A3 owner here. Car has 66k miles.
I bought my car instead of a GTI as I read they shared the same drivetrain. I didn't do the research on the model and year as some have advised. When I inquired about the timing belt service, the dealer I bought the car from told me it had a timing chain. Is that true? Because the car came with no service history, the order of business was an oil change. I thought I'd put in the proper amount of oil but only a hundred miles later, the "low oil" warning showed on the display. I immediately stopped at a convenience store and added half a quart, thinking I just hadn't put enough in after draining the old oil.
Following the service schedule, I just this weekend replaced the plugs. #1 and #4 had wet threads, #2 and #3 much less. This got me reading the topic on this forum about pcv valves closing, causing pressure build up. I'm starting to put 2 and 2 together here. I really haven't had a chance to put enough miles on the car yet to determine how much oil I'm burning but, doesn't the oil on the end cylinders jive with the pressure build up from a defective pcv valve?
The other tip I followed was to remove the oil filler when the car was running.
Again, the motor ran poorly when I did this, which indicates a bad pcv valve, correct?

The thing is, I haven't read one post of this "stage 1" remedy fixing an oil consumption problem, although posters all have '09's or newer. I've seen this valve on line for about $90. and can do myself, I'm tempted to go ahead.
Does anyone know if the '08 problem is more related to the pcv valve failure and less due to rings/cylinders? And what about the timing chain for this year?
Thanks in advance for any comments. I'll follow the thread and report back.
Thanks all!
Oh: I love driving this car! I don't find the S line suspension to stiff, and I live in a rural area with some lousy roads. Happy when behind the wheel here

BikeMan, you'll most likely cure the problem changing the pcv valve, one of my friends had the same problem with his 08....I personally haven't heard of any 08 ring issues like I had.

Thanks for the quick reply, Washed! I'm going to run this by a great shop owner an hour from here(: Larson's European Car Service in Lee, MA.)
I'm leaning that way for sure.
