What type of oil is recommended for my 2009 Audio A4 Q 2.0T? BTW, live in So Cal so we don't really have any seasons here.

VW 502 approved. I use nothing but Mobil 1. 5W-40 is recommended.

I'm thinking of putting this Amsoil 5w-40 in my car at the next oil change... I have heard and read that Amsoil is even better than Mobil 1... has anyone heard differently?

The only problem is it's not VW approved. Same with Royal Purple. I'm sure both are great oils but why aren't they VW approved?

What kind of oil filter is needed? I am at the 16000KM mark, have a friend that works at a GM dealership that can get me the Mobile 1 for free I would just need to know how much oil goes in and what kind of filter to use. I am guessing I would have to get it from the Dealership ? Also another thing why would they say I only need an oil change at 8K and 24K and not inbetween (is that because of what audi care covers or is that whats only needed ? )

You must have some serious beef with Castrol, that’s the only way I can explain why would anyone completely ignore the intended oil brand your engine was designed for. Even your oil cap says Castrol 5w 40. Can’t wait to put some Mobil 1 in it.

I believe any Euro-spec 5W-40 will be fine. I have used Mobile-1 and my indie shop uses Amsol. Sold my 2003 A6 2.7T MT6 with 236k miles and turbos were original (just leaking a little). My current A4 has 170k (with an engine rebuild at 152k for oil blow-by). I drove my A6 a lot, mostly highway, and change the oil/filter at about 8k miles. The A4 is a winter driver so I change the oil in the spring before storage, usually at 5-10k miles.
