*Help* No AT Trans Dipstick?? 1979 Audi 5000s (Type 43)
Hello,
I just acquired a nice '79 Audi 5000, under 100k original miles (!)
-5cyl Gas 2.2 liter (original, CIS Fuel injected "WE" code engine). Non Turbo. FWD.
**I do not see a trans dipstick on this car**!
It has the 3-speed AT ("010" style i've heard?)..
The Chilton's manual shows it riding up along the driver's side of the engine block - basically somewhat behind the Engine Oil Dipstick - But I see no such dipstick anywhere! (only the engine oil dipstick)
Now, i know that recent VW's, Audi's, etc have moved to this setup (where you check, fill and drain from the pan) - Am i missing something here, or should there infact be a dipstick on these early Audi 5000's?
Thanks much!

Nah. They had dipsticks. Down a bit under the brake booster. If actually NO stick, you should see a kinda fat tube that the dipstick fits into.
Look closer. It doesn't stick up and hit you in the eye.
Cheers,
George
