Best way to Upgrade my 90?
Hey everyone, i'm a newbie to this whole audi thing. Personally an audi wasn't my first choice of car;I was planning on getting a nissan 240sx, but i needed a car badly and the price was nice and low enough for me. So i became the proud owner of a 1990 model 90 with the 5 cyl. 3 speed automatic transmission (FWD) for 1000 bucks. I really do love the car, i can't get over how well the car drives for the age and the mileage (187,000). I have a few questions though, are there any engine/tranny combos that bolt right in? Possibly in a manual? And would it be possible to install a quattro engine, trans, and drivelinesin there (with some fab work obviously)? Did they use the same chassis for the quattro version? Sorry for my ignorance, like i said, and u can tell by my # of posts i'm a noob with an itch for a faster audi. Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me.

To be honest, you would be better off just finding a turbo quattro 5 spd, theres many in my local papers all the time, and they go forfairly low ($500 - 1000)
Just keep your eyes open, and maybe you can find one, and use your 90 as a donor, or just sell.
Oh yeah, welcome to the forums, you made the right choice of getting an audi
if you can work on these cars, you can work any any car.

I know audi's are hard to work on, that's one of the reasons i got one, i love to work on cars.I'm in the states too, we dont' see any older audi's like that around here, only POS domestic cars. And the fabrication doesn't bother me at all, because i'm going to be taking the Machining and CNCMachining course(Mechanical Engineering Major) soon at my university, so it would give me something to make in there. I was just wondering if anyone had any info as to what engine/tranny combos WOULD fit or would bolt in to the mounts, maybe a turbo 5 cyl motor, and IF it would be possible to put a quattro system in without a whole LOT offabricationbecause i see there is a solid rear axle on my car, so i was thinking maybe they just did that instead of having the diff in the center with the driveshafts out to each wheel. Anyway, sry for the really long posts, just explaining there is a method to my madness. Thanks again.
