electrical problem

Default electrical problem

the other night i was taking a friend home and i went to turn on my head light and my dash lights and heater/air lights shut off as well as the defroster light. but my subs kick on and the lights in the glove box turn on i dont know why this is happening it was just random. i checked all of the fuses under the hood. not sure if there are hidden ones.other then the relays under the gauge cluster. help please cant tell how fast i am going after dark

I had this happen once to me as well and realized that I had accidentally simply dimmed the dash lights. All the lights you speak of are on the same dimmer switch. The dimmer control is that post on the far right of the guages. It turnes right to brighten and left to dim.

Hopefully thats the problem.

lol. Yup. BTDT too. I was pissed for a while, turned out i just hit that **** with my wrist. definately the first place to start looking.

Ignition switch! Just replace the switch, especially if it hasn't been replaced in a while. In my 90 I replace it once a year as a regular maintenance item. They just aren't made that well.

if guages are operational, like RPM goes up and down, then power is coming to the cluster. Could be that bulbs burned out, regulator died, or wire got lose.

well it comes on time to time but only for a few mins so its not the bulb but i dont know what to do

check the intensifier above the glove box- (looks like a relay) - these had bad solders inside causing eratic dash light performance. remove the intensifier but leave it plugged in and wiggle it to see if lights come back on... hope this helps
