Exclamation Fuel Cut-Off at full throttle - 200 20valve

Greetings! This is my first post on the boards here.

I have a 91 200 20v.

While driving, especially in 4th and 5th gear, If I apply full throttle the car kinda clunks and loses all power. It feels like fuel cut-off or some kind of electronic protection.
The problem affects all gears, but 1-3 I really have to lay it down for it to happen.

Any Ideas on what may be causing this? I was thinking I would try the plug wires first.... But for some reason I doubt that is the problem.

Regards!

Well I have the same problem. Watch the boost while you do that. Putting it in 4th or 5th gear and accelerating will load the engine and cause the boost to go up. if you have abad wastegate or wastegate solenoid, you will over boost. The computer has a built in protection for the engine. once the boost passes a certain level, the fuel pump gets cut off to save the head.

I'm not sure on what it is for the 20v, but stock on the 10v is 1.45bar. My car however is chipped and hits 1.8 bar and the fuel pump cuts off at 1.95 bar.

So my suggestion is to watch the boost gauge and see what it gets to when the problem occurs. Be careful too, because if you don't get the problem fixed and it is overboost, you can blow the michelin hose that goes from the intercooler to the throttle body. its a $170 hose I've blown 3 already and 2 intercoolers.
