HELP ME PLS with diff oil/ fill plugs etc!!!!!!
Ok i got some new gear oil for my 89 coupe Q.. I got the rear diff fill plug off.. BUT the drain plug WONT come off.. i soaked it in the best stuff i had (liquid wrench) but still no luck... I have a 17mm alan wrench.. what can i do to get this thing off??? I wanted to ask about the front diffs/tranny. I sprayed the fill/drain plugs for now, but do I just add the 3 qts of gear oil in that fill plug hole? Does the oil distribute to the front diff, tranny, and center diff though that fill plug? I wanted to make sure before i started to drain stuff. I didnt know if there were seperate fill/drain plugs for the front diff/center diff etc.
I think seal is leaking
.. except for the new one that was put in where the drive shaft goes into.... now do i add ENGINE stop leak to where i put in the new gear oil? I checked the 20V. org site but was not exactly sure...
what kind of stop leak do it use? Does it really help to stop the seals from leaking? Help me please!! I was under the car for HRS trying to get that drain plug out with no luck
The oil inside the rear diff smells kinda burnt too. Any info woul help me a TON

nip the bolt first to break the rust "alloy rusts" then spray with oil"

The plug might have some thread locking compound. I would try heating the plug with a pencil torch, and then use a good quality socket and a 1/2 or 3/4 inch breaker bar.
I dunno about the torch... but I can try to find a 17mm socket. Yeah, figured i would prob need a breaker bar.. i will have to find the socket though.. that may be kinda hard to do.. esp on sunday bec everything is closed
But thanks for the tip... i will go to base tomorrow and see what i can dig up.

if the breaker bar doesn't work try the old putting a pipe on the end of it(the breaker bar), just be sure the pipe isn't too big cause I've already broken a breaker bar doing that!!!!...eesh
Alrighty heheh i will remember that. trying to find tools around here isnt easy.. at least for me. Finding a 17mm socket for the drain plugs will be kinda hard, if i dont wanna get them from Audi.
Anyone know what kind of stop leak I can use for the front diff seals, etc?? Is it just reg engine stop leak?

I found that "stop leak" stuff doesn't work well. It is good for a day or two, and then you will have an even bigger leak. It is a temporary patch and not a permanent fix.
Temp is what i need for now
They dont have an actual drain plug socket on base.. i will have to search elsewhere... i still have that 17mm allen wrench thing I can mess with the gear box tomorrow. I got some stop leak for engine oil leaks.. ill just throw some of that in the gear box... I hope I don't have the same luck with those plugs like I do with the rear plug

Well here is the update... the rear drain plug is gonna have to wait.. its pretty much stripped
... and its cold as hell in the garage (i think its 26 degs here now). But i did get the drain plug off the gear box and ATTEMPTED to put in new fluid. the old oil that came out was very very black... prob the orig stuff. I put some MT90 from redline in there... and i hope I got enough of it INSIDE the gearbox.. it was rather messy.. I had to use a turkey baster to get my new oil in.. that was no easy task. I didn't have anything better like a suction gun. I got about 2 3/4 qts in there and half a bottle of stop leak. When i get a new rad, ill take the car to audi to have the cooling system flushed out, and maybe have them take the rear plug out for me. I will find a new plug at the junk yard. When it is WAY warmer (warm enough so i do not see my breath while under the car) i will mess with the rear diff.. maybe by then, i can find myself a suction gun. Thanks for all your input fellas
I thank you
