oil temp
in the 4kq what importance is this gauge. im driving on the highway at about 8 and my engine temp doesn't do anything except sit there at warm. the oil temp however keeps going way up one light from red and then i slow down and it some times goes down a bit should i worry about this or is there some kind of oil cooling system that will keep it from getting too hot? or is it just connected to the whole engine cooling system? bottom line does it matter if i slow down or will it self correct no matter how hard im working it.
....
so it goes all the way to the top??
really??
Mine only goes to the third one.
I beleive the numbers are in celcius, how hard do you run it where the oil gets above 220 degrees farenheit???..............?

it was when cruising down the high way. i had never seen it get up above 3 or 4 either. im thinking that my oil cooler might be going bad. but i wanted to be going 80-85mph but i couldnt because i didnt want to cook the engine
that sounds odd... your gauge could be going bad, or the temp sensor could be going bad, because thats really hot. I wouldn't expect a N/A motor to get really really really hot oil. were you doing anything insane? no spirited driving? just driving down the highway?? and it just all of a sudden jumped up??
oh and I've had the 200 for a while, probably since novemberish I think. And it treats me nice. only problems i've had so far are problems caused by the previous owner like: lots of vacuum leaks, bunch of non working lights in instrument cluster/no working speedo, broken parking break, needing an alignment.... I could go on but I'm slowly but surely fixing everything. and it was about 650 bucks with 170k miles. great deal for its condition.

yeah it didnt just all of a sudden jump up it would work its way up and then come back down to about half way. but the engine temp didn't go up...so maybe it is just a bad sensor.
for 650 you cant beat that.
