viper,

Since 89 was the introductory model it is not uncommon to have unique parts just for that model year. The only sure way to know is to do a side by side comparison with a 1990 or later, to see what the difference is and if could be retrofitted. Or you could ask some old time grease monkey working for Audi who could perhaps tell you what the difference is. I know from first hand experience that some small number of parts on my 91 100Q are unique to my model year only. It was the same with my Honda motorcycle. If you just happen to have unique parts then the price is going to be high because the demand might be low.

yep i have an I5 engine.. I will take picts of my rad.. and measure it.. then compare to the stuff i see on the net. Most oxy sensors i see are expensive anyway.. i already expected it though. I think audi wanted to charge me 500 bucks for the cables to my regulator.. f that.. i bought a used one from schokan that came with a motor, cables, beefed up pulleys... for 400 bucks.. and it had a warranty.

But yeah, i figured there COULD be differences.. but i hope not. I will check it out before i dish out the cash. Thanks for your info guys. These coupes are cool, but man im always working on it hehhe

You can sometimes go to Audi dealer and ask if the part number are the same for for both models.

The problem of owning an Audi is that it is not for somebody who is on a tight budget. Parts are expensive and the cars do require some frequent maintenance especially on anything over 10 years.

Mine is just full of holes hehhe... and falling apart..

stop leak does not help hehe... i tried some of the powder stuff

I also have a new leak in the front diff, after i changed the gear oil in it.. so its prob gonna be fixed later on after the rad.
Yeah I will ask audi about that... good idea

The problem with Audi radiators is that the cooling system uses a 17-22psi pressure cap. The sides of the radiator AND heater core are plastic (hint, hint….) With time the plastic gets brittle and the constant expansion and contraction causes pin holes to develop. The stop leak is not supposed to be used as a permanent fix, some even recommend loosening the pressure cap.

you could just cut the bad parts out. like the rad has hundrets of vains, the ones that leak just cluck them with something, like pliars, or silicone, or glue. easi.
but ye new rad would be the best.
the powder just gets into the good part of the rad. think about it, the powder clogs the part where it pases.

It never ceases to amaze me!

People buy high end luxury car and then bitch and moan how expensive it is to maintain, hoping that a pair of vise grips, stop leak and some snake oil will fix the car and won’t cost more than $5 in the process. I have seen this with owners of Audi, BMW, Mercedes, SAAB, Volvo, etc.

It’s an Audi not a Yugo so stop your whining or get rid of the car!
