The point of forums such as this one (with knowledgeable members and threads such as the FAQ sticky at the top of the B5 subforum) is to keep people from being misinformed. Your K03 will not explode after upgrading the ECU. It will wear more quickly but if it's in good shape you should get many miles of fun, higher boosting driving out of it.

There's a reason there's still a naturally aspirated V8 in the S5 compared to the turbo-4 in the A5. Just sayin'.

And there's a reason there are turbos on the 5.2L V10 in the RS6 too. Displacement alone wasn't cutting it

That tune was totally worth $450! I don't know about 50 HP and 80 TQ but its close enough 1.5 seconds off 0-60

Nah, displacement isn't needed for power (just ask the stage 3 S4 guys) BUT it is the way to go when you're an OEM and you have to warranty that power.

I can't argue that. N/A is 'safer' for the OEM.
