Default Vag-Com Question.

Hey guys, looking into purchasing a Vag-Com. Ive heard that they can cost around $200.00, but the units on ebay go for anywhere from 10-30 bucks.

Has anyone bought one of these off ebay ?

Can I just install the software with the supplied disc, plug in and go ? Or is there something else I need to get ?

Here is the one im looking at.

Thanks.

Default vag com

I'd just go to the vag com website and get it from them. software is free but you have to buy the cable to unlock it and it was pretty inexpensive i think i paid less than 200 for mine.

I've done some reading and found that the cheap Chinese cables on ebay can actually damage the computer in your car. Especially if it has an aftermarket stereo or anything has been changed like the alarm.

Also need to check if their software will work with your version of windows. Several I checked would only work with XP Pro SP-2.

Going to Ross-Tech and buying their cable with a license for their software is the best.

Good Luck!

Default vag com

heres the link for the software/hex-usb cable that unlocks the software:
http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.html
the cable is $250 to unlock the software, plus it is better to get it from the actual site. My only problem is ive tried using some of the features with no insight or training and all i can do is get some real time diagnostics on rpm, fuel, etc. but i am not sure what the appropriate values are so a manual on the site would be a big help. im going to fix a prob with mine so i just installed vag com on my net book and i am going to get all engine codes and some figures on the fuel,timing....& post it on the forum cause i know theres some guys with engine code manuals and an idea where i should be sitting with a/f ratio and everything else under load and at idle with a gt2871r turbo kit.

Nice, looks like i'll just go with the real cable, im going to be putting a MFS into my A4, in order to properly clear the P0705 code and get this thing out of limp after the install I need a Vag com correct ?

I tried clearing the code at work with our geneisis scan tool, and the light went out, but it remained in safe mode.
