Default factory chrome wheel question (from a noob)

The only question I have for you guys (right now) involves my wheels. They are the factory chrome 17"s. The car is a 2003 A6. All the cars I have seen around don't have these. My question is to those that know about them. Are they clear-coated in any way? What type of cleaner can be used on them? Just soap and water or any good chrome cleaner? The last thing I want to do is ruin the finish on them. Here is a pic to show you what I am talking about...

Thanks in advance..

Honestly, when I had chrome wheels, I was advised to use windex to clean them, with a soft towel, rather than the store-bought specific wheel cleaners. I used windex for two years on them, and never had a problem at all.

Thanks for your help NY. I had chrome on a cars YEARS ago, and I always used windex like you. Sounds like the best way.

Any other advice from anyone?

Yep, it always worked for me. I was always a little leery of the multi-finish wheel cleaners that claim to be safe on anything from chrome to steel - seems to me that something that's abrasive enough to clean bare steel would be a little too risky on a comparatively fragile finish like chrome. Windex is tried and true

meguire's makes a good chrome cleaner too. it takes a little bit more elbow grease than windex but the outcome is great.
