01 s4. hate stock system.
i recently bought a indash dvd, 2 alpine mono amps and 2 alpine type r subs.
ive heard replacing the head unit and working on the s4 (or any audi) is a hassle and really expensive. is that true or can a guy with a few yrs install experience handle the job? he has not worked on audi's but on most other foreign cars. please help. i hate my stock symphony bose system. sounds like an old cheap aiwa home system.

BOSE=TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No it's not hard at all. Find the harness from Metra and the kit as well. You might need an special antenna adapter to make your AM work. Search the forums and you will find all of the information you need.
Yes running wires in Audis is a pain in the ***, but if you say that you have some installer experience it should be pretty straight forward. The stock headunit is preout only so it looks like you will be using the factory amps to power the front and rear speakers. If you really want it to sound good I would suggest replacing all speakers and running them off of a 4-ch amp and maybe adding the Alpine PXA-H701 processor to your Alpine screen if that is what you have.
