DIY radio reception fix
there is an antenna amp inside above the rear window. It's underneath the trim panel. If you grab it by the bottom and slow pull it out from side to side, it will pop out. It is stubborn and sounds like it is breaking when you pop it off, but don't worry about the sound.
WHat happens, is heat cracks the black rubber on the antenna amp, causing poor reception. To replace it, runs about $250-350, I think, just for the part.
After you have the panel off, turn the radio on and scan the channels. Then press hard on where the crack is on the amp. It will almost always improve the reception.
I am on my second one, and it is cracked also. I don't want to buy another because it will just happen again, so what I did just yesterday was to glue a 3/4"-1" rubber bumper on to the trim panel, positioning it about where it would contact the crack.
When I put the panel back on, the bumper applied a constant pressure on the crack, giving me great reception again (hopefully for good)
I hope that this helps!

I fixed mine free!
This was a motivating thread, I had the same issue. Few strong stations, autosearch found nothing across entire band. I took off the interior piece and looked. I did not see any cracks as others have said they found in extreme cases. Then I put on a weak station and with my thumb I pushed around different spots of my unit. Pressing right on the word "germany" I got instant great reception on my previously weak station. Auto search was finding multitude of stations like when car was new. the solution did not last, if I tapped around elsewhere the fix from simply pressing went away so I figured first pothole I hit would unfix it after a press. So I took a wire tie and a cork and rigged it so there is constant pressure on that spot. Seems to be working for now even if I press and tap around the unit. I am trying to attach a photo to this post, hope it works. Good luck.

Audi Symphony Antenna stopped 5 years ago.
It seems many of us have an antenna problem with the 2002 audi symphony. I called the dealer and was told that they needed the number that came with that particular car. OK, it is in the book that came with the car. Was told that heat is the problem. The installed price was around $600. I now use tape and cd only.Still get a few stations if the signal is powerful enough. I would like to replace it with the "Shark Fin" type, but don't know if that will work. Can't use after market radio, because the antenna is also an amp(?) So I will have to buy that as well. Any thoughts?
