A4 Problems with ABS Pump HELP PLEASE !!
Hello folks,
I have a major problem with my 2017 plate Audi Avant A4 Sport Ultra TDI, sorry I'm not at all technical so please redirect if this isn't the right section
. I'll do my best to explain the whole sorry saga as I need to grab the bull by the horns and get this sorted after trying to forget about it for the past few months.
Several months ago the brake warning light came up on my dashboard and I took it to my local garage who diagnosed it as a faulty ABS pump. As they weren't Audi specialists and as it's a very expensive job I wanted a second opinion so I took it to the nearest Audi main dealer Sytner. They quoted me £100 + VAT to do a diagnosis which I was happy to pay and I left my car with them. They got back to me later and told me that the issue was a faulty ABS sensor so I gave them the go ahead to replace this and thought that was that.
Imagine my shock when they gave me a bill for almost £500 (including the diagnosis) and AND then told me what I had been told by my local garage - that it was a faulty ABS pump - and then quoted me well OVER THREE THOUSAND POUNDS
to replace it !!. I was completely stunned. This car had only done just over 23,000 miles and had always been maintained by Audi main dealers. I had treated myself and "invested" the whole of my pension lump sum when I bought this vehicle as I thought it would give me many years of trouble free motoring. Surely parts like this shouldn't fail after just a few years on a very low mileage vehicle that has been immaculately maintained ??. I've never spent anything like this on buying a car before in over 40 years of motoring and am bitterly disappointed and disillusioned with what's gone wrong with it
.
So, any ideas please ?? (the warranty had only just run out and I didn't extend it because previous Audis I've owned have been very reliable). The MOT is due in March, would it fail with the warning light showing even though I have been assured by many people that it's perfectly safe to drive ??.

Hello Madden 1588,
I kicked up a hell of a fuss with Audi UK customer service as I was seriously p*ss*d off about what had happened. After some correspondence I got a call from the service manager of the Audi main dealer that had diagnosed the fault and they offered to pay 40% of the £3K bill, I had hoped they would replace FOC as a gesture of goodwill giving the low age of the vehicle but this was a result of sorts I guess as the outcome could have been worse. If you wish to PM me your email address I will happily send you a copy of the email I sent them (if I can find it) so you can see what I said which hopefully will give you some pointers as to what to say. Good luck !!

Thanks for this, I put my car into a 3rd party garage for MOT and they told me it was the ABS pump that was the problem. I took it to Audi and they diagnosed it was the calliper.
I have been quoted £3300 for the abs pump plus paid £1200 for the caliper ( which it wasn't )
No ABS warning on the dash, my wife's car. Only when I happened to drive it did I realise it was pulling right when braking.
NO WARNING LIGHT!!!
Doesn't bear thinking about if wife & kids had to make an emergency stop.!
Thought Audi was the safest car, No warning light if you don't have all the brakes is incredulous!
