Default ALPINE SUBS

im a total nemb when it comes to sound systems, if i put a dual enclosed sub box with alpine type R subs and an amp that can handle that power, will i need a new reciever or can i leave the bose system intact and just tack on the subs? I would be getting everything professionally installed.

you should be able to leave the stock bose system in however it may require special wiring harnesses. plus if your having a shop do it they should be knowlegable in this area. talk to the guys at the shop. my reccomendation is leave the stock head unit

What wattage subs should I be looking at. I want something that will be noticibly better than the stock bose sub, anyone know what the wattage is on the bose premium sub? I'm looking at mainly alpine brand and I'm planning on doing dual 12 inchers, I was thinking of runing 300 RMS watt in each. Too much?

YOu're making a common mistake - equating power with sound.

Here's a couple of points:

1) You can get far better subs than those Alpines.

2) You can get very good sound with less power. Power does NOT equate to sound.

3) Two 12"s will just overpower the OEM system in my opinion. That may be what you want, if you're looking for annoying levels of bass, but if you have any desire for sound quality, consider one good 10" and an amp.

Always talk to the professionals if your not sure about something because its better to know how its done right before you start on it. you can leave the stock reciever in but will have to get special converters for the wiring which i would talk to the guys at the shop about that and make sure that you get insulation around the area that you will be putting the subs otherwise parts of your car will rattle because I also had the 12" type r and they were some great subs for the price.

u can use the stock wiring and tap into the rear speaker wires, but i wouldnt recomend it. its a very cheap way of doing it, but it never sounds right. an aftermarket deck does wonders for when u add subs
