Car start and work fine after 5min voltages drop to 12 and slowly eat battery. Is is alternator or voltage regulator?

When working volts are high allmost at red.

After charging battery works fine about 5min and then same symptoms.


Car is audi a6 2.4 year 2000 220 000 km.

Sounds like you are having the exact same problem i was having with my a6. If you read the direct volts coming off the alternator what are they? I was getting 12 there but then when I tested the line I was getting like 3.5 or something. I ended up having to re-wire the alternator to the battery because there was some short or something in the line. Ever since I did that everything has been working fine. Stays strong at 12-14 volts when driving. Before it would keep dropping below 12 because it was not charging correctly while driving.
