B5 avant rear speakers
I have changed the head unit , got all the wiring adaptors and as i was expecting rear speakers work but are very quiet , where is the factory fitted amp is it the same side as the bass speaker ??? how do i get decent volume from the rear speakers , do I rewire them direct to the stereo or get a better amp to feed them ???? any help greatly appreciated

I have no clue how you're getting any sound from your rear speakers at all. Upon installing a new head unit, you disconnect the rear speakers from the factory pre-amp. So, the only way to get any sound from the rear speakers is to rewire all the way to the back of the head unit.
I thought you could just do a plug-and-play setup like on the front 4"...but after speaking with people at Crutchfield, they said you have to rewire the back speakers to the head unit directly to bypass the factory amp.
I'm gonna do it this upcoming weekend...hopefully. I'll let you know how it goes.

The rear speakers were fed off the amp on the base speaker in. the boot , yes I did what you are going to do which was to run new cables from the head unit to each rear speaker , or you could run both new wires down the left side of the car and pick up the wiring to the right rear speaker. Just saves time on dismantling your car , but I did run one down each side and connected to the existing wires in the kick strip.
