Default factory cd player- possible?

Im looking at a 98 a4, and it comes with a cassette/ cd changer. Thing is I have no need for cassettes. And I wouldnt want to rip out the factory amps and speakers since they sound nice. How hard is it to buy a stereo from later model a4 say -00 or '01 that has cd player. does it plug right in? Where is best place to get one?
Thanks

Default RE: factory cd player- possible?

You can purchase a refurbished changer from the dealer or get a used unit through a salvage yard. Shokan's comes to mind. I chose to install a Solisto MP3 box instead when my factory changer quit. It plugs in like a changer, but accepts a USB flash drive with MP3's, and is controlled through the factory head unit. I mounted mine in the glove box. It is a lot cleaner than going aftermarket with the head unit or using an MP3 player with an interface.
