What head unit? The stock one, or the aftermarket one. Whats the brand/model?
If you are attempting an upgrade, the stock Bose system is notoriously flat (which is *good*), so you will be hard pressed to find something with better sound quality. I would recommend looking at an Eclipse head unit. Whenever I upgrade a vehicle, I usually do a package, and an Eclipse head unit is where I start.

Grab one of those, I haven't bought one in a while, I still have 2-3 kicking around the house if I need them. But they should be in the $200~ price range, and up.
Like I said I do a package. I put 4 MA (Memphis Audio) speakers and a $220 Eclipse head unit in a Civic, total cost was under $400, and it was one of the best sounding basic installs I have seen. Yes, it was a civic, but my friend was one one who bought it. LOL I was just the audio guy. Anyway, Eclipse is one of the best out there for head units, and on a budget, MA is one of the best speaker makers out there.
The reason I highlight this is because I think the Bose speakers in your car use a funky impedance that will muck up any other head unit, so you will probably either go through head units, not have sound (if the head unit has protection circuitry in it), or need new speakers. Naturally, I recommend a Boston Acoustics speaker setup with an Eclipse head unit, as Boston is THE best. Let me know your thoughts.

I think Crutchfield sells those G512's (10's) for 399. Atm they are offering buy 1 get 1 free. But for me, driving a TT I want to put in RF T110's. It's priced at 299. I just like the look of it over the Boston's. I am going to use a Phoenix Gold Titanium series amp to power my subs. It's a 1200 watt mono block.
