Default Installing aftermarket head unit in 2000 A6

with Symphony I (NON Bose) currently installed.

Years ago in high school I could change out a head unit no problem. Just match up the wires and all was good. Later I started using harness adapters and things got better. Now jump ahead 15 years and I lost touch with car stereo technology. I want to replace my factory head unit & phatbox with a double din bluetooth enabled unit. My questions are:

Is it just a matter of matching wires up like the old days?
Will I lose my factory subs in the back by just installing the new HU?

Any advice you might have, any websites you suggest I read, anything at all is appreciated.

Jeff

Haven't decided yet. It will take me a long time, I am just too damn picky.

Oh, and incredibly cheap.
