Default Instrument Cluster brightness

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions before I hand the car over to a garage.

The instrument panel on my A4 (1998) isn't as bright as it should be, and occaisionally flickers up to normal brightness while driving.
I can't find anywhere to control the brightness, and the fuses look OK.

Many Thanks

its probably dusty in there behind the instrument gauge faces. dust accumulates on the bulb's surface as well as the instrument dials and panel insides. You could try and remove the instrument panel and using a small vacuum, clean it out. While you're at it, you could probably replace the bulbs as well. New bulbs will always shine brighter than similar spec'd old ones.

turn the stick right by the trip odometer? At least that's what does it on an A6.
