y not get a rca converter. U can just tap into the speaker wire and hook it up and then plug ur rcas to the rconverter., U can pick up a converter at any speaker shop or maybe circuit city or best buy. Thats the easiest way without having to buy new headunit.

i have looked into that, but i heard it takes away from the quality. your talking converting the speakers and connect the subs directly to them right?

Default This is how you hook up subs with original headunit.

The Audi's bose system is decent. If you drive the car, which is most liklely you do if you are the owner, you will be listening to mostly the front stage speakers located on your front door panels. On my 00 A4 i got Bose components. The rear stage speaker(back doors and rear hatch- 8 speaker system) like my A4 slightly provided the rear sound fill. Before i had a aftermarket headunit with RCA outputs i had a Hi-Lo RCA output converter tapped into the rear hatch speakers and hid the small box under the hatch panel. You don't even need to tap both left and right speakers if you are using the output for a subwoofer application. Just hook up the 2 pos and 2 neg wires to one speaker. Bam there you go. By the way an aftermarket does sound better through the outputs for an external amplifier, just that an aftermarket headunit has stronger voltage Rca outputs and has more defined adjustability direct from the headunit as opposed to going to the amp to make adjustments.

you can get a line level converter. they sell them at bestbuy for $25. it has 6 wires 2grounds (not needed unless you get static), white(Left+), white with black stripe(Left-), Grey(Right+), and Gray with black stripe(Right-).. hook up the speaker inputs of the line level by tapping into the rear speakers, either at the speakers or behind the deck. use rear so you can fade the music to the front to cut out subs, but still be able to hear your highs and mids.. onec you make all the connections just connect the RCA's from your amp to the RCA output on the line level.

Hey I have a 96 Audi A4, I bought a line in converter, but I cant seem to figure out how to take the head unit off. Does anybody know how? Also I bought a set of JL Audio components could I wire those to the stock amp that is in the trunk. I believe I have the concert radio but I know the speakers are bose.

you need 2 sets of euro din removal tools, 4 total.. I get mine from here to do installs at work.
there will be four horizontal slots above and below the buttons on the side of the radio, stick the tools in with the notch towards center of the radio and pull out and back.

If you have the money, buy an aftermarket radio. I have installed the line converter, but I am very unhappy with the quality. It could be 10x's better with a direct hook up like an aftermarket receiver. I am now in the process of searching for an affordable receiver. But if money is tight like mine was at the time, a line converter is cheap. I got mine from ebay for approx. $10.
