Default Stock HID Headlight Issues

I have a 2000 A4 with stock (Projection) Headlights. I just bought the car and was told that a headlight was out, Didnt think anything of it, I bought a new one and went to replace it when I noticed that there was no headlight bulb in the socket to be burnt out, I put the new headlight bulb in and nothing, I still get a headlight code on dash and no light. I did notice a little bit of black inside the headlight socket where it looks like a previous bulb may have arked out inside the socket some how. Is there a fuse that could be out or ??? Any help would be apreciated as now Im driving with brights on all the time and getting the finger from everyone!

It has them, and they look stock. Any way to tell?

I looked online it looks like they started the HID in 2000

Nope you have projectors, Standard on S4 models, and optional on the 01+ A4s.

hid is the bulb used. Projector is the lens that the light goes through. You might have a burnt harness and have to replace it. Have u checked with a voltmeter to make sure u are recieving power to the plug? That would be the first thing i would check besides any other damage to the wires.

the bulb is new. im not getting any power at the bulb, and the fuses are good. Im just gonna have to take it in to have it looked at. Not sure what it could be other then the ballast. Maybe it shorted out and burned up, but either way I cant keep going around with out proper headlights.

have u tried swapping the bulbs in each headlight to verify that it is the bulb and perhaps not the ballast. Just trying to save u some $$ instead of taking it to someone and they end up charging you an arm and a leg.

It has a brand new bulb, What it will do now is accationaly come on but if you shut the lights off and then try and turn them back on, they wont come on and there is a humming sound comming from around the headlight
