Default 100 '92 radiator fan & temp sensor

Hello,

Does anybody know how to diagnose radiator fans (both electric) and coolant temperature sensor on Audi 100 '92. My coolant temperature gage sometimes moves a notch, but then drops back, most of the time stays in the left most position (I had this problem for years, foolishly neglecting it). Radiator fans used to work, but don't anymore, at least I never hear them with the hot engine off. Oil temperature gage works and shows the normal ~100 C. I watched the engine coolant temperature on the climate control unit (address 51), it climbs to 90 and stays there. Is this an indication that the cooland temperature sensor is working? That would be nice since I am not really sure where it is located.

Is there a way to hot-wire one of the radiator fans to see if the motor is ok?

Thanks.
