Hey everyone,

Got a '97 A4 with 163K miles that recently started giving me trouble. It started with the engine shutting off at lights once in a couple days and in 2 months has progressed to the engine shutting down frequently, especially at stoplights, and completely losing torque (I leave it in gear) on the freeway a few seconds at a time.

My dad thinks it's the catalytic converter but isn't sure and doesn't have the time to find out. For those who have had trouble with catalytic converters--what are the symptoms and does what I described above fit the bill? Any pointers would be much appreciated.
