Default 1998 Audi won't move

I was driving along one day and the oil light came on briefly and then off. Twenty Miles later I stop at a red light and wait for it to change. I press the gas and the engine just revs. I look down and notice it is still in Drive (automatic Transmission). Nothing I do will get the car to move. I shut it off, put the shifter in nuetral, walked it off to the side of the road and called a tow truck.

Any Ideas before I bring it to a mechanic and possibly embarass myself? There is no check engine light and there was no noise or anything abnormal the night my car stopped driving.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hiya

Sounds like your having an issue with the torque convertor in the automatic transmission.

The torque convertor take the power from the engine and make the transmission go. If the autobox isn't getting any power from the engine, it would rev.

I hope that is a start for you.
