if you can see that the intake valves are bent... do you really need to see the exhaust valves too...?

its pretty straight forward of an answer for you.

and to me you seem mechanically sound enough to replace the valves yourself. to take it to a machine shop you have to pull the heads anyways which is the bulk of the work.

and for mexican47, if your more than 2 teeth off you will have valve damage. one tooth off it will run, lack a little power but some people who don't beat on their cars might not even notice the difference

 

thats what i was saying.. IF YOU HAVE THE INTAKE OFF HOW DO YOU KNOW THE EXHAUST VALVES ARE BENT?? a bent valve is a remove the head to repair job regardless if its intake or exhaust.. but he said he removed the intake manifold and noted bent exhaust valves.. and 2 teeth off will not bend a valve.. your saying with one tooth off itll run poor but two teeth and youll bend a valve.. not a chance

 

Yeah sorry, it might have sounded misleading but all my exhaust valves are bent and only a couple intake... I know the exhaust valves are all bent because I can see that they are open at the same time as the intake valves when I look thru the intake valve openings as I rotate the cam- so in a way I have a permanent exhaust stroke going on. It sucks, but oh well. I found a place that will sell me a whole new set of valves with stem seals and all for the whole engine for 215.00 plus a head kit. I am thinking that the exhaust valves bent first because they are larger and have more contact surface along with the fact that they run hotter and are more likely to bend.

I was mainly wondering if anyone might know what it would cost to have the valves done if I brought the heads to a machine shop. I dont have the tools to pull the old ones out, refurbish the valves guides and put in new ones... At this point I can only hope the pistons are stronger than the valves! Thanks for all the input so far! My belt was off 2-3 teeth when I took it apart and that was enough to bend 14 valves....
