2000 s4 with new camshaft
Hi, I a looking at a 2000 s4 with 116,000 miles. The car fax shows the car had a new camshaft at about 60,000. I was wondering if this was something normal or if I shold be concerned the car has been driven hard. It runs really well. I haven't driven a lot of fast cars and this one scares me how fast it is. Could be just my inxperience. Also has had new drive shaft. Don't know if these things are normal or not. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark
Drive shaft replacement would be normal as the boot depending on outside/driving conditions could dry out and tear. However, new camshaft at 60k miles is not usual. If you don't feel any problems with engine all the way through redline and neither do you hear unusual sounds like clicking in the engine then I would say you are fine.
The only time I ever had to replace camshaft on a car was when timing chain broke and it chipped an edge of the camshaft. An unusual situation and it was a fairly older car.

ask the guy, alot of S4 owner get 2.8 A4 cams because they give a better performance than the 2.7t sticks. it could also mean that the engine got a new cam tensioner not new cams, which will loosen every now and then on the 5v V6's. you'd really have to have faith and ask teh owner.
