Default 2002 A6 CVT dead, Atlanta

Hi;

The tiptronic on my 2002 A6 3.0L V6 front drive just died. A condition I'll call "infinite neutral". Engine runs fine, gear selector placed in any location and no movement. Car even rolls while in park. Happened in an instant. Drove the car out of the driveway, went 50 feet then - rolled to stop.

Any suggestions for a fair & honest transmission repair shop in Atlanta area. Most search engines give me just a list of transmission shops in my community, none seem to be specialists in CVT. I plan to call one place on Rte 53 in Braselton.

Help appreciated. Anyone out there experience total failure of CVT and what can I expect for repair cost?

Thanks.
Sid -- Atlanta area.

Sorry to mislead people that may have read my original posting. After further research I discovered that the transmission is a CVT.
The car is a Audi A6 year 2002, front drive with 3.0L V6 and CVT.
Any help would be appreciated

Default 2002 CVT transmission problem solved

Hi All;

My dead car was not a transmission at all. The mechanic that replaced the front drive axle did not push the inner spline in far enough for the retaining ring to seat. As a result the drive axle backed-out of the transmission and brought the car to a halt. It cost me a lot to have expert european transmission specialist on Braselton, GA to find and fix the problem. Had to have the car towed 42 miles to the shop.

But the cost was a lot less than a new transmission. Not sure I want to go back to the original german master mechanic in Alpharetta, GA any more.

Thanks
