Default 2003 A4 burning oil excessively

Hello:

Twice over the last few months the low oil light has come on and I've had to refill my oil. There doesn't appear to be any sort of leak. Any ideas of why my engine is burning through so much oil?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same here. In my case, it's because one of oxygen sensors is not working or malfunctioning.

mine does this about 6 weeks after every service and i carry a oil can in the boot. my 05 wrx does the same apparently its normal but i still remember my 78 v6 volvo used no oil ever between changes my oil in the a4 gets really dirty quickly which is also normal. at least the engine goes okay. mine main problems were broken brake vacuum pipes from the manifold and a dodgy multitronic transmission everyone wants to replace saying "it cant be repaired".

audi's standard claim for deniablility... is one quart for every 1000 miles...

year and engine type might help tho...

mine is a 2 litre 2003 with 132k still goes well doesnt blow smoke and has the low oil level light so its not a real problem. brakes and corners better than the wrx but slower of course. the multitronic still plays up but i am waiting for a repair option now rather than replacing the whole tranny.

Mine is the base model 2 litre non turbo. Has done 138km in 5 years and always needs a litre of oil every 2 months. Today the Audi dealer offered me $11,000AU as a trade on a 159 alfa 2.4 TD 6 speed manual with only 12k. I might be doing it next week. The Alf drove very well faster than a4. The auto version was hopeless. Paul

I have a 98' A4 Quattro. I bought it about a year ago and initially it was burning about a quart of oil between oil changes. Since then, the burning has greatly reduced. I think that this was caused by using different density of oil.

The 2 litre engine (code ALT) is well known for its problems with oil consumption and the way to fix it? ENGINE CHANGE. So if that's the engine you've got, get rid of this car if you get a chance.
