I just bought a 2004 Audi A6 (3.0) last week. This afternoon, I started the car fine but it died in 1 min, then I tried again, and it started and died down again very soon. Thereafter it wont start, after I turn the ignition, I can hear the Errrr sound but it just cant start. Battery meter on the dash shows 12 V so I guess its not the battery problem.

I then tried pounding the fuel pump (hit the pump area very hard) and then tried to start the car, amazingly it started but died again very quickly. Is it a clogged fuel problem?

Now I am very confused what might be the problem. Should I replace the feul pump? or fuel filter? or is it spark plus? Or related to the car key?

 

I would vote for fuel pump... Banging on it got you another start, and if you did it again, it may start again. I've changed quite a few
