2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro Rattling Noise
I recently had my oil topped off because the check oil light came on. After that there was a very loud rattling noise that has started and only makes the noise when the car is idle. When i give it gas it goes away and the car seems to right perfectly fine. No engine lights or service lights have come on. I got the oil and filter changed to see if that would help at all but it has not made any difference. I have taken it to a vw/audi shop to get it looked at and they seem to have located where the noise is coming from after lifting the car. It is in the transmission area. However in order to further diagnose the problem they have to pull the transmission to see whats going on in there. They spoke of a flexplate or possibly even torque converter being the problem. They don't think it is the transmission because the car is still running fine except when it is idle it makes the rattling noise. when driving i notice that turning the steering wheel affects the sound. it gets a little louder and sometimes higher in pitch. the only problem and reason why i am hesitant to pull the transmission is because it is so costly to take out and then put back in and on top of all that we don't know whether that is the problem or not. I guess i just wanted to put this out there to hear some thoughts and ideas to what is going on here with my car. please help if you can. i have attached a video of the noise
