I am having shifting problems with my 1998 model Auto Tiptronic 30V 2.8 (80,000km). I went to see an independant repairer and was told that it is becoming a general problem. Has does enyone heard of this problem. I believe it is n E19 box.

 

huh i dont know man i have 130,000 on mine and no motor or tranny problems but it is a 5 speed. how durable is quattro?

 

what problems r u having specifically?

 

if the tip doesn't change gears - it's probably the magnetic strip under the plastic cover of the the gear selector. the magnetic strip triggers the tiptronic gear selection (upshift / downshift). if it is damaged, misaligned somehow, tip won't function. transmission is otherwise ok.

if so, just need to replace it. i think ~ $200 to have audi mechanic fix.
