4.2v8 S4 briefly won't crank when cold

I replaced the ignition switch and all problems solved! Not a pricey fix and it fires right up now.
I've been having the same problem with my 1998 A4 2.8L Quattro. I just had the starter replaced, and the next day if was in the single digit temps - once again failed to crank. I had to be persistent, try multiple times and leave the key turned until it decided to crank. The key also doesn't spring back correctly all the way into the "run" position. I'm going to replace the ignition starter switch, and hopefully it will fix both problems. It would be nice to know if somebody has been successful in finding the source of the problem.

:)
That's good to hear because my ignition switch is being shipped to me at the moment and should be here in a few days

i have a black 6 speed 2004 audi s4 that started out with a similar issue, in tempuratures below 40-50 degrees i could not crank or have a delayed cranking, however this has developed into a more serious issue to where my car will no longer start, my mechanic has diagnosed it as a faulty solenoid and to replace the starter.
