I'm extremely new to audis and clueles as to what might be wrong this my tranny. It's not a tiptronic and works just fine except when i shift it into any gear except neutral or park. When I try to stop at neutral or park, it makes a grinding noise identical to the sound a car makes when trying to engage the starter when the motor is already running. Drives beautifully other than this, I'm just scared to death when I hear a sound like that coming from my trans. Is this a fairly a fairly common problem with these transmissions? Thanks for any help! My Audi is a '96 2.8 automatic quattro with 100,000 on the motor and trans.
