So I just received my 'cheap' hydraulic tensioner, and it is the same German flennor one I just ordered from rockauto! So it looks like rockauto will be getting theirs back and I'll keep the cheap one.

So I finally got to start my little project today. I found two things that I was surprised to see.
1. My AFC engine seems not to have the hydraulic tensioner I was told it would have and,
2. The timing belt is very slack.
I made short 15 second vid showing it. I'll post it when I upload it somewhere.

Ok, so I know it's been a while since I last posted and I promised that I would do a write up on what I was doing.

Well since then a very good friend of mine started a general motoring forum. He is also an Audi owner.

Due to him being a good friend, I did the write up for his forum. I also did not want to go back on what I had said on here either.

So here is a link to that write up, with pics. I have had a lot of help from this forum and if anyone wants to ask about anything I have done so far, please ask.

Default 1997 A6 spark plugs

Just got this 2.8 ltr. car with 34,000 miles, never had new plugs! So, dealer needed Vin number to determine. Is it that tough? Any recomendations on either Bosh or NGK?
Thanks

Hey kaports. I sent you another message tonight with the plug numbers. Let me know that you got it or not because it's not showing in my message history.
Just to add to your question above. It isn't unusual for a car manufacturer to change parts mid model. So while your car and someone else's car are both say a 2003 cavalier, the alternator from one won't work on another. Of you're being a stickler for OE equipment then giving the vin is the most accurate way to go.
