howdy folks. i have about 86k miles on this 99 A8. i've had 2 previous A8's. this one seems to upshift when it didn't used to. it's hard to explain, but it's like it doesn't know what gear it's supposed to be in. when i use the manual part of the tiptronic, no problems. and to complicate things, there was a period of a couple days recently when it worked like it should. this happened immediately after i used a different key to start it. i read where the transmission is computer controlled. is it possible the computer program has been damaged somehow? i've also been advised of a transmission seal leak. would low transmission fluid cause these symptoms? tia.

Welcome NOOB! I haven't personally experienced this problem with my '99 A8, but I've got about 10,000 less miles on mine, so far... I have heard other on here complain about similiar problems, and the occassional "hunting" by the tranny for the proper gear. 99.99% of them trace teh problem to a dirty MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. The remaining ).01% have actual tranny problems... Check/clean yours, or have your local Stealership do it for you[:'(]
